I SPEAK GOOD ENGLISH, I LEARN IT FROM A BOOOK

Here are some books I've recently read/been reading.
1) Captain Blood - Raphael Sabatini.
Bloody good ripping yarn about a gentlemanly poirate going swashbuckilng around the Caribbean and being pursued by the might of the Spanish Main, me hearties. Yarr, 7/10 ye scurvy cur.
2) Thus Spake Zarathustra - Nietzsche.
Intriguing philosophical discourse by crazy fellow in beard and sandals (I imagine). Apparently, God is dead. Well, there we are then. Far more entertaining and easier to read than...
3) Ulysses - James Joyce.
This book is utterly dire. It makes no sense, has no discernable plot, no literal or allegorical merit, no entertainment value, no emotional resonance, and it's completely unreadable. Think A Clockwork Orange except nothing happens and makes even less sense. I don't care if this was a deliberate effort on the part of Joyce, its Absolutely Bloody Awful, avoid.
4) The Science of Discworld II - Terry Pratchett et al.
Brilliantly engaging and enthralling book touching the realms of science, philosophy and religion, with the Discworld Universe used to good analogical effect. Highly recommended - Second read of this now and it's still great.
5) Civil Disobedience - Thoreau.
Suprisingly easy to digest series of essays on affairs of the state, ones place in relation to the state, and why the author thinks the whole lot should be told to shove off. Worrying references to other things that may or may not be of profound significance, depending on which side of the appel one sits. Good stuff.
