THE VOICE OF REASON

Now this War thing, it's very silly. Here I shall explain why:
1) The War is touted as being required "to disarm Iraq".
- War is often associated with arms, is it not? I would suggest that to go to War merely to "disarm" someone is like shooting someone in the head for having a teaspoon. Oh wait, the Americans are behind it. That and the fact that the Iraqis are already disarming, as stated by Mr. Blix and his UN inspectors.
2) The War is touted as being part of "The War On Terror".
- There is no evidence whatsoever of Iraq having anything to do with Al-Quaeda, or any other terrorists. Indeed, Iraqi government is stridently secular and against any forms of religious fundamentalism, and indeed has in the past persecuted the Muslims on the North of the country.
3) The War is touted as being necessary to "Protect America".
- How, precisely, is a country on the other side of the planet, and crippled by 12 years of sanctions able to mount an attack on American Interests? And indeed British Interests, eh Tony? It's not as if the Argies have invaded the Falklands or anything.
4) The vast majority, including three Veto holders, of the UN is against any action at this time. Now, the UN is made up of a wide spectrum of countries of all sizes, and most of them concur that war is not justified at present. Should this not be telling Bush and Blair something? Oh yes, the American government views the UN as an outdated irritant. I wonder what they would say if the UN were behind it?
5) The American Economy is faltering, and Bush's popularity is plummeting. Well we all know what a quick and decisive war does for popularity, just ask Thatcher. Is it also not worthy of a few raised eyebrows that American companies have been asked to submit for tender plans to rebuild Iraq before the war has even started?
6) North Korea does have the means to damage American interests (Seoul is within range of its missiles) and Japan (ditto) yet little is being done about this because a) It has no oil, b) China might get narked if America started prancing around on its doorstep. America is keen to persue "multilateral diplomacy" with Korea, yet refuses to do the same in Iraq.
7) fundamentalist terror will undoubtedly be inflamed by any war on Iraq. It would create countless martyrs, and serve only to reinforce the "bully boy" image that many eastern countries have of the West. We need to be talking to these people, not bombing the bejeesus out of them.
8) Oh and while we're at it, the UK is seeking to drastically cut the number of illegal immigrants entering this country. Well, a donking great war in a very poor country is going to help that no end, isn't it?

I agree that Saddam is an evil tinpot encumbant dictator, and must go. But surely, there must be a better way that won't throw the entire world out of kilter?

There's loads more but I've got work to do, you know.
